Item Description

MCP2200 OPTO is a optically isolated USB-UART conveter. It is based on Microchip MCP2200 chip. There are two 6N137 optocouplers on the module for receive (RX) and transmit (TX) lines.

Module configuration

Will send the module configured. To configure the module yourself first download MCP2200 Configuration Utility here.
Make all the settings like on the picture and click Configure button.

Configuration Settings

Baud Rate: This is just an initial setting. The application which opens COM port will set the actual Baud Rate, this value will be overriden.
Enable Tx/Rx LEDs: Tx/Rx LEDs will blink during data transmission. In LED Funcion you can set the blinking mode.
Invert UART Polarity (UPOL): The Optocoupler (6n137) inverts the signal so the UART chip should also invert the signal to get proper working. Check this option!

Do not forget to click Configure to save settings!

Pinout

GND: Ground
TX: Transmit data (output)
RX: Receive data (input)
V+: Supply (input), 5V recommended. Target circuit must source the "target powered side" of converter. See picture below.

Powering the module

The module has a USB powered part and a target circuit powered part. The two parts are not galvanically connected. The target circuit MUST power the "target circuit powered side" part of this converter!

Notes

This converter is for USB to UART (RS232) data conversion, 5V level. Recommended V+ voltage is 4.5 to 5.5V (6N137 datasheet) and same level on the TX and RX pins. I made a few test with 3.3V devices and it worked great even at high speed communication. In this case V+ should be connected to 3.3V supply.
